Viaduct Housing Partnership Announces New Extra Care Housing Scheme
Viaduct Housing Partnership is thrilled to announce the development, an innovative Extra Care Housing scheme designed to meet the needs of older residents. The scheme, located at Edinburgh Close, offers a blend of 49 one- and two-bedroom apartments spread across three floors, with 35 homes available for social rent and 14 for Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO).
The project is set for completion in August 2025, with Rowlinson Construction Ltd as the contractor, Wilkinson Cowan Partnership serving as the employer’s agent, and PRP as the architect.
The scheme is designed to enhance community living for older adults, offering high-quality accommodation paired with excellent on-site facilities, including a bistro and hair salon—both of which will be open to the general public.
Extra Care Living accommodation is designed with older people in mind and aims to provide a home where you have independence and privacy, but where you can enjoy the company of other tenants and be part of a community. Extra Care living is a type of ‘housing with care’ which means you retain independence while you're assisted with daily living tasks.
The project has been made possible through funding from Homes England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC).
For those aged 55 and over, OPSO provides an affordable pathway to owning a share of a purpose-built home. Whether you are looking to downsize or need a home more suited to your needs, buyers can purchase a share between 10% and 75%. Importantly, once 75% ownership is reached, no rent is payable on the remaining share, providing long-term financial peace of mind.
